Project Overview
Replaced a worn fiberglass front entry on a Greenville Augusta Road home with a custom mahogany inswing door, matching mahogany sidelights, leaded-glass transom, and a refinished brick threshold — designed to anchor the front-elevation refresh.
The Challenge
The home's original front door was a 1990s six-panel fiberglass unit with a weathered finish, a too-short standard 80-inch height, and no architectural relationship to the home's character. The homeowners wanted a true statement entry with sidelights and a transom that matched the home's traditional architecture, plus a proper deadbolt and multi-point lockset for security.
Our Solution
We custom-ordered an 8-foot mahogany inswing entry door with two matching sidelights and a leaded-glass arched transom, raising the head height to suit the elevation. The brick threshold was refinished and a new aluminum sill installed for proper drainage. The unit installs with a multi-point lockset (top, middle, bottom engagement), Emtek brushed-nickel hardware, and a Schlage smart deadbolt. Interior casing was upgraded to match the home's existing crown profile, and the door received a hand-rubbed marine-grade urethane finish for UV protection.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the wood door hold up in Upstate SC weather?
Yes — the marine-grade urethane finish handles UV and humidity well, and a covered front porch (as on this home) extends the finish life dramatically. We recommend a finish refresh every 7–10 years, which is a quick same-day visit.
How long did the entry replacement take?
Two days on-site once the custom door arrived. The lead time on a custom mahogany entry with sidelights and transom is typically 6–10 weeks from order to delivery.
Is a multi-point lockset more secure?
Yes — it engages the door frame at three points (top, middle, bottom) instead of just one, dramatically improving resistance to kick-in attempts. Combined with a quality deadbolt and properly reinforced strike plates, it's a real security upgrade over a standard single-point lock.
