Project Overview

Replaced tired vinyl siding on a Simpsonville two-story with a mixed-material exterior — fiber-cement lap siding across the main body, cedar-look shake panels in the gables, and a refreshed front-porch column wrap that lifted the home's curb appeal without touching the floor plan.

The Challenge

The home's original 1990s vinyl siding was sun-faded on the west side, the gable vinyl looked flat from the street, and the front-porch columns had been wrapped in a bare-aluminum that read as dated. The homeowners wanted curb appeal that matched their interior remodel investment without the cost of changing the footprint.

Our Solution

We removed the existing vinyl, wrapped the home in taped house wrap, and installed fiber-cement lap on the main body with cedar-look shake panels in the front and side gables for contrast. The front porch columns were boxed in PVC with a thicker base and capital profile, the front door was painted a deep accent color, and new gutters were color-matched to the trim. The home reads as fully renovated from the curb.

Scope of Work

  • Full tear-off of existing vinyl siding and trim
  • Taped high-perm house wrap installed across full envelope
  • Fiber-cement lap siding installed across main body
  • Cedar-look fiber-cement shake panels in front and side gables
  • Re-wrapped front-porch columns in PVC with new base and capital profile
  • Replaced corner boards, window casing, and frieze in PVC trim
  • New seamless aluminum gutters color-matched to trim
  • Front door repainted in accent color and re-weatherstripped

Materials & Products

  • Fiber-cement lap siding, pre-finished
  • Fiber-cement shake panels in cedar profile
  • PVC trim package (corners, casing, frieze, column wrap)
  • Taped house wrap (drainable WRB)
  • Seamless aluminum gutters and downspouts

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the cedar-look shake fade or warp?

No — we used pre-finished fiber-cement shake panels in a cedar profile, not real cedar. They look like cedar from the curb but carry the same long-life paint finish and warranty as the lap siding on the rest of the house.

How much did this refresh add to the home's value?

Exterior re-cladding in the Upstate typically returns 70–80% at resale on a mid-market home, with the bigger benefit being faster days-on-market — buyers tour the inside more eagerly when the curb appeal is already done. We can share our market notes during the assessment.

Can you do an exterior refresh without re-siding the entire house?

Sometimes. If the existing siding is sound, we can do a paint-and-trim refresh plus gable accents or column work for a fraction of a full re-side. We're upfront about which approach makes sense for your home's condition.
